According to rumors, Chelsea are considering a late loan deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, but first need to offload players.
By paying £98 million for Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku, who scored on his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal on Sunday, the Blues made a statement about their Premier League title ambitions.
Chelsea are following Saul's situation, according to Sportsmail, who has had a rocky transfer window in Spain after being considered by Atletico Madrid in a loan swap deal with Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann earlier this summer.
However, according to The Telegraph, Chelsea can only sign the Spanish midfielder if they reduce their roster size.
According to the report, Atleti is willing to sell for roughly £38 million this summer, although a loan arrangement might also be reached.
Atalanta has signed full defender Davide Zappacosta on a season-long loan with the possibility of a permanent £8 million deal, while Genk has signed striker Ike Ugbo for £5 million.
Chelsea are also close to agreeing to extend Tiemoue Bakayoko's loan to AC Milan, while midfielders Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater might leave in the last week of the transfer market.
Saul, on the other hand, appeared 33 times in the league last season as Atletico Madrid won LaLiga ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Luis Enrique, on the other hand, did not select him for Spain's Euro 2020 squad earlier this summer.
The midfielder has a £128 million buy-out clause at Atleti, but the Spanish club is ready to selling one of its key midfielders for a lower price due to financial pressures.
Manchester United have long been interested in Saul, according to Sportsmail, and the 26-year-old has been offered to Barcelona and Juventus this summer.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are close to finalizing a deal for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his squad even more.
The Blues, on the other hand, require the sale of Kurt Zouma to West Ham, which has been stalled due to the Frenchman's pay demands.
Zouma's move to the Hammers, who are top of the Premier League after two games, was agreed for £26 million, but the France international demands £125,000 per week. Chelsea must sell, in order to bankroll a move for Kounde who is valued at £68 million.
