Mario Balotelli has been exonerated of rape charges after a 16-year-old girl accused the Italian player of the crime in France.
The alleged incident took place in July 2017 while the former Manchester City and Liverpool player was playing for Nice in France.
The 31-year-old claimed they met while on vacation and had consensual sex, following which she called him and demanded €100,000 (£84,930).
Three weeks before his accuser and her lawyer contacted authorities, Balotelli reported the suspected extortion attempt to the police.
However, police in Balotelli's birthplace of Brescia have closed the inquiry, claiming that any allegations leveled against him were 'unfounded.'
'Balotelli is satisfied,' his lawyer added, describing the claim as "inappropriate and offensive."
'It's a shame for the girl, who has proven herself to be a tool in the hands of a callous adult.'
A judge decided that witness testimony and recordings of Balotelli's phone conversations revealed a'machination' to extort money.
After leaving Monza in Italy this summer, the 31-year-old Italian striker has signed for Turkish club Adana Demirspor.
