Jesse Lingard is prepared to LEAVE Man United this summer

Jesse Lingard is planning to quit Manchester United this summer if he does not believe he will be able to play frequently, in order to improve his prospects of returning to the England squad.

Last season, the offensive midfielder fell out of favor at United and was loaned out to West Ham, where he received numerous accolades for his efforts.

Lingard, according to the Times, wants regular first-team action and could force his way out of Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on August 31.

After returning to Manchester, the 28-year-old has made an impression in pre-season, scoring against Queens Park Rangers and dazzling against Wayne Rooney's Derby.

Despite missing the club's Premier League opener, a 5-1 win against Leeds, Covid-19 returned to the training pitch on Tuesday and scored again in a friendly against Burnley.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is allegedly considering bringing him into the squad for Sunday's match against Southampton, but despite his impressive pre-season and last season's play, regular game time with the Red Devils is far from certain.

With £73 million signing Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Paul Pogba capable of playing out wide, United's winger spots are well stocked.

Lingard knows it will be difficult to leave the club he joined 21 years ago, but he is willing to do so with one year left on his contract in order to improve his prospects of returning to Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Lingard was included in the Three Lions' initial Euro 2020 squad, but he was not selected in the final 23-man group, despite the fact that he is believed to have been impressed by his attitude and performances since his return to the team.

Although it is understood that an Italian enquiry for the £25m-rated star was received, no official bids have yet been received, with West Ham keen to re-sign him permanently but hesitant to pay the asking price.

Lingard's outstanding success at the London Stadium - nine goals and five assists in just 16 appearances - helped David Moyes' Hammers finish sixth, just two points outside of the Champions League.
